Stewart Copeland founded The Police in early 1977. Though Sting and Henry Padovani were initial members, Andy Summers was later added an Padovani left, ostensibly due to his limited ability on the guitar.
The Police grew in popularity with each album, which included a slew of hit singles including "Roxanne", "Message In A Bottle", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and "Every Breath You Take".
Sting went on to become a star in his own right, and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
